Wal-Mart Stores has filed a preliminary plan for a large scale Neighborhood Market near downtown Rogers, according to city officials and first reported by NWA Newspapers.
It would be the third Neighborhood Market in the city located at Eighth and Walnut Streets about 10 blocks from store No. 3479 at 1819 S. 8th Street.
Plans call for a fueling station situated on the north side of the building near Walnut Street. The proposed store would be about 41,000 square feet, facing Walnut Street and provide 300 parking spaces, according to the plans submitted to the city.
The retailer continues its robust store buildout in Benton and Washington counties, already announcing nine new stores in recent months — Supercenters in Springdale, Centerton and near Bella Vista; Neighborhood Markets in downtown Bentonville, Rogers, Centerton, Farmington, Pea Ridge; and the new convenience store recently opened in Bentonville.
Wal-Mart said it chose the location near downtown Rogers because that area appears to be underserved in grocery.
A recent report procured by the Rogers-Lowell Chamber of Commerce indicated a strong desire by local residents to see more development near downtown. This project is welcomed by the city as a catalyst for more downtown investment in the coming months.
